minarelli rv4 timing/position of backplate
Hi all, it's been a while since i've been on here. Anyway, i have been looking in the 'how to' section/FAQ's and have seen how to set up the rv4 timing, but i would like to see the position of the baseplate/ stator plate, because i don't have a degree wheel to see how many degrees advanced or retarded my ignition is. I've also heard that if you retard the ignition the bike will make more power at higher revs.
Thanks for any help.

Re: minarelli rv4 timing/position of backplate
Thanks for the reply thomas, i know where you mean. I think mine is facing around that opening, but the engine doesn't like say 6,000rpm, as if i leave it at these revs then it starts jurking and slightly reving up and shutting off.

Re: minarelli rv4 timing/position of backplate
are joe tokking toe mie?:P
no, make sure you fit your membrane & carburettor manifold using liquid gasket or quality paper gaskets. check if the crankshaft oil seals are O.K. , if not, that might just be your problem.

Re: minarelli rv4 timing/position of backplate
Thanks for the suggestions, I have just done a rebuild including all bearings and oil seals, except the big end bearing(was still very good, replaced it a year ago). New piston arrived today, so running it in. I'm pretty sure it's the backplate/ ignition that's my problem, it doesn't like ticking over at all. Sounds like it miss fires and just revs up and slows down slightly, carb is clean etc and gaskets have been replaced on the reed block and cylinder. Thanks again.

Re: minarelli rv4 timing/position of backplate
Spark plug cap is a normal one, it's rubber coated, have also tried an ngk and still runs the same, spark plug is a br8iex( iridium), have also tried br10 es and b8es plugs etc and different cdi units, so is definaely my back plate.
