Hi,
sorry for the very, very late response, but've had so much other work to do
I've opened an am6 engine, so will be able the check the gear ratio in the afternoon.
As for the clutch (am6)
The primary gearing: 20
The secondary gearing: 71
=> 0,28 - rpm reduced by 3,55 (so if you're crank does 10 000rpm, this will be reduced to 2800 rpm)
As for the clutch (rv6)
The primary gearing:
The secondary gearing:
AM6 gearbox ratios:
6: 25/24 => 1,042 meaning you'll secondary gearshaft will run @ +- the same rpm as the clutch.
5: 24/25 => 0,96
4: 22/27 => 0,815
3: 19/29 => 0,655
2: 16/33 => 0,485
1: ??/36
Found these in the aprilia exploded views, will check them for you.
Now, about the P6 and RV6
The lower engine cases, gearbox etc are all the same, the only thing that's different is the clutch cover (the one from the rv6 has a waterpump), but if you put a clutchcover from an rv6 on an P6 it would, you should be able to use a watercooled cilinder on the engine from an rv6.
As for the exausts:
Use the ones designed for the aprilia rs 50 1999 - 2005, the fit well on the af1. And if you want a good starterexaust, buy a giannelli or yasuni (see www.opvoeren.nl - the site is also in English)
Good luck
- will post the gear ratio later on today -

Thanks for the information and the reply, for the rv6 i know the primary gearing is 16 and secondary 61, so if this is right and the am6 is 20 ,71 then surely the am6 is faster than the rv6 with the same gearing E.G 14 front, 40 tooth rear. and the rv6 has very close ratios in the gearbox?
so if you would be able to find out which engine would be fastest with the same gearing and everything else the same it would help me greatly. One final question, would the am6 gearbox fit the rv6 casings.
Thanks again for all the help.

the am6 gearbox would not fit the rv6 casings
but I have a remark
rv6 = 16/61 => so a reduction of 3.8125
am6 = 20/71 => so a reduction of 3.55
this could mean a difference in top speed, but it's not certain
If you're AM6 engine makes 10 000rpm @ crank:
10 000/3.55*1.042 => 2935.21 (rpm of front sprocket)
If you're RV6 makes 10 000rpm @ crank:
10 000/3.8125*x => y
The problem is I don't have any compete rv6 gearbixes left
If the final gearbox ratio is 1.12 you'd have the same speed as the am6, the difference in top speed is not thath much IMHO.

looking @ the ratio of an rv3
thomasrs50 schreef: this is the gear ratio from rv3:
1 - 3,3 2 - 1,68 3 - 1,15
I'm pretty sure the final rv6 gearing will be the same, only with 3 gears more, meaning a better ratio spread ...
If the rv6 has a final gearing of 1.15 it is FASTER than an am6

Hi thanks well i have tried to work it out from the rpm of the front sprocket and come out with a slightly slower rpm. But If i give you the teeth of both the prmary and secondary gearbox shafts would you be able to claculate if the am6 is the same as the rv6.
i found these off an old ebay listing and look to be the same as my rv6 the numbers on the primary teeth (Clutch) 33-30-27-25-23-21, secondary (pinion chain) 10-13-16-18-21-23
Thanks again for your help.

hi, yes it's easy to calculate when I habe the gearing, but you mixed up primary and secondary gearing
primary: 10 13 16 18 21 23
secondary 33 30 27 25 23 21
the ratio from the 6th gear = 23/21 => 1.0952
so, if you have 10 000rpm @ crank:
10 000/3.8125*1.0952 = 2872rpm
meaning the rv6 makes less than a 100 rpm less compared to the am6

Also i have had a think and just wondered if you know of or if you have ever tried fitting the primary gearing(sprocket on the crank) and secondary gearing(Clutch) of the am6 onto the rv6 as then this would come out as 3000 something rpm on the font sprocket at 10,000rpm and be faster than the am6.
Thanks.

impossible to do so :)
just be happy with a 'slower' engine

Ok thanks for the information just wanted to be quicker than an am6 because they seem a lot faster when i was on an rv3 and rv4. Also you don't know of any cheap polini 70cc or 80cc cylinders and race exhausts that are new or people are selling do you as i have seen a polini cast iron 70cc on dutch ebay at 180 euros i think. Thanks.
